Living Systems - Week 12 - Biophysics

Lesson: Life and Living Systems
I know I'm a "living system" because...
Biophysics and TCM

I know I'm a "living system" because my body is able to perform the physiological functions of breathing, sleeping, eating, defecating, mating, etc. My cognitive thoughts are able to project into emotions and actions. I am able to feel human emotions such as empathy, anger, fear, etc. My biophysical organs and cells within my body work on their specific functions in order to thrive.
In comparison to a modern-day humanoid android- they are alive with AI technology and advanced computer systems. Though their limits are capped with components that humans bear, such as functioning organs, emotions, and free will. It is only a matter of time when our own androids may come to a level similar to that of a human.

There is definitely a connection between biophysics and traditional Chinese medicine. The influence of various modalities such as needling, cupping, and even tui na massage has a physical impact on the body. While taking a closer look into the biophysical components of tcm, it is apparent that even a needling reaction such as a rash, redness, or itchiness are all examples of the acupuncture "working on the body".

  1. Ohh your image for this concept of AI tech is amazing! You're right this humanoid technology has quite an unpredictable future ahead of us. I wonder if it will be in our lifetime! Free will seems to be one of the biggest differences that make us so unique. I wonder how we have grown and evolved to have this characteristic that essentially makes us human and if it is something that can be artificially created in machines.
