Cancer Sucks ! - Week 7 - Bio
Lesson: Cell biology and Cancer
TCM approach to Cancer
Though it is quite apparent that research for understanding cancer is vast and has been around for decades, I believe that we have only scratched the surface to what we know about cancer and it's cell biology. As our knowledge only being to the level of human sophistication, it may be noted that we could be in need of some help to surpass in cracking the "code" to cancer.
Chemotherapy may be the "best" treatment for cancer, but it seems all too barbaric of a process to go through, leaving a patient in a state of weakness and deficiency. If developed properly, the usage of ever-so-evolving technology such as microscopic nano robots could aid in the understanding of cancer, and ultimately- curing the disease. One can only tell how far into the future that may be, it is with my hopes to live through to see the day in that feat of science and healing.
The traditional chinese medicine approach to cancer differs in the aspect of viewing cancer as an imbalance of qi and blood. The use acupuncture is to treat pain for patients going through chemotherapy. While the usage of herbal medicine is also applied in order to boost white blood cells in the body to strengthen the immune system, and nutritionally support organs such as the Kidney, Liver, and Heart to increase their function.
TCM also views cancer in an emotional perspective, as the role of the spirit is very important in the healing process, as well as maintaining a diet for deficiency in blood, qi, and shen.
I think more and more people are seeking alternative therapies to balance out the aggressiveness of modern cancer treatments. Nothing brings us closer to the truth than our own experiences and the physical symptoms that cancer patients experience while going through chemotherapy have led them to seek out options that temper the toxicity and fatigue of the treatment.
