Bruce Lee That Sh*t - Week 3 - Chemistry

Lesson: Element of the Week
Green Chemistry

"Be water, my friends" - Bruce Lee

Though I may come across as a "fiery"-type person. I have a great affinity and respect for the element of Water.
Hydrogen intrigues me the most because of it's colorless, odorless, yet also potentially dangerous features.
Hydrogen is the lightest element, and is the most abundant chemical substance of the universe. Liquid hydrogen was used by NASA to launch shuttles into space. It is used to refine crude oil, creates electricity and stores electricity from renewals, creates fertilizer and consumer goods that are used daily. It's flexibility for extreme cold and hot temperatures are used to create metals, glass and electronics. And it is also used to bind chemicals for medicine.
A truly pivotal element of the entire table, and one with the philosophy of Bruce Lee himself.

Cats are like liquids... Are they made of hydrogen?

I think the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry are great idea in creating a safer and healthier world around us. I wonder though, if they are to be followed just as particularly as Moses's ten commandments. I fear that this idea may not entirely follow through with the majority of the popularity because many disregard this issue as "something that cannot be changed with just one person".
If the Twelve Principles were to truly influence how we approach science and chemistry today, I find it would be effective to be an enforced way of science for all. Only then, we can collectively as a whole society, plow through modernized ideologies into the beautiful sci-fi dream we so call the "future".

  1. I never thought about the connection between Hydrogen and Bruce Lee. Awesome, of course! I also agree with you that it will be hard to have people really follow the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry- maybe this stage of climate crisis force us all to make a change. Humans seem to be really good at getting motivated for change when it's basically too late already, but who knows? Maybe we can save our future in the end.
